Development of Nicotinic Acid Controlled Release Tablets with Natural Phenolic Anti-oxidant Polymer by Encapsulation Technique

Nicotinic Acid (NA) is a cholesterol lowering agent used to treat dyslipidemia. Proanthocyanidins (PC) was selected as drug and encapsulation material in which the later has dual property of being polymer well agent. The NA with different concentrations carried out by solvent evaporation technique. encapsulated converted granules were then compressed into tablets wet granulation method. It subjected many pre-compression parameters evaluation such flow properties, content efficiency. evaluated for thickness, hardness, friability, <em>in vitro</em> release studies, kinetics stability studies. formulations showed compliance pharmacopoeial standards. efficiency 99.73% 99.52% content. FT-IR spectrum did not show interaction between polymer. pH 1.2 lesser than 6.8 buffer. product released controlled manner alkaline medium. 97.1% extended up 12 hrs. optimized batch underwent studies per ICH guidelines. can be concluded that among all F5 considered formulation. non-fickian diffusion mechanism release.
